What Causes Snoring?
Posted in snoring causes on March 14th, 2010 by Mary – Be the first to commentHi there….Mary here,
I wasn’t really sure at first if I wanted to go much into what causes snoring. There are plenty of sites and places where you find this information. But if my site is about snoring solutions, thought it would benefit you to learn about snoring causes at the same place.
The information I will give you here comes from what we learned at my husband’s specialist. It is very interesting and were surprised at the actual causes of snoring.
So why do we snore? Snoring comes from vibrating tissue in the back of your throat when your throat has become too narrow or partially blocked for the flow of air. When you are in a deep sleep, your jaw, roof of your mouth, tongue, and soft palate relax. The muscles from your jaw and those sagging tissues block your airway. Then vibrate when air flows past them. The more narrow your throat becomes, the louder the snoring gets. As you peruse the selection of snoring solutions my husband tried, you will see there is something that is marketed to “supposedly” deal with each of those relaxed tissues.
Here is a partial list of factors that contribute to snoring problems:
- Overweight – Poor throat muscle tone and fatty tissue can narrow the air passageway. My husband was overweight. His snoring solution to that was an attempt at Weight Watchers.
- Hereditary Mouth Anatomy – Family genes can cause a naturally narrow throat, a low soft palate, weak jaw, or large tonsils.
- Alcohol/Smoking – Each will relax your throat muscles. Smoking may cause chronic nasal congestion which is also a cause.
- Being Male – The specialist told us males have narrower throats than females.
We found there are tons of snoring solutions on the market for each of those problems. But the problem we found was most snoring aids did not work as they were billed. And you have to find the right solution to fit the cause. But our experience told us that every snoring remedy doesn’t always work with everybody.
However, the best snoring solutions that finally worked were the easiest, most simple and more comfortable of everything he tried.
Soon, I will talk about some of the problems my husband’s incessant snoring was doing to our relationship and our physical selves.
